Holy Big Cat, Batman!

I'm sure by now, everyone has heard about the 44 pound cat that was found wandering the streets of south NJ. After a search for the cat's owner, it turns out that he was abandoned by his owner when her home went into foreclosure.

Now, I realize that foreclosure of one's home is horrible. It must be a terrible feeling to experience and I don't wish that on anyone. However, how can someone just abandon a living creature who is dependent on them? The cat's owner should have found it a new home or, at the very least, they should have hand delivered the cat to the shelter! Any responsible person knows that.

But I wonder how someone can just give up a family member like that? If they had children and were faced with the same situation, would they abandon them? I can say with 100% certainty that if I were faced with the same situation, I would live in a box under the highway overpass with Luna rather than abandon her to the streets, the shelter, or any other life without me. But hey, that's just me.

People need to start taking responsibility for our planet and its living creatures. If you take on the responsibility of pet ownership, you need to see it through to the end, not just give up when times get tough. People would be appalled if this was a child, why aren't we just as upset about the irresponsible abandonment of a furry member of the family?

I hope Powder (as it turns out the cat's name is) finds a good home with loving "parents" and lives a long happy life with them!

The story I read said that the woman left the cat with friends who were supposed to bring it to a shelter. Obviously, she left the cat with the wrong friends.
